Self Audit: How Are You Putting Your Certification to Work?
By Nancy Cobb

You have attended the two-day class, completed your assignments and are maintaining your certification by participating in the Webinars. At this point, it is important to assess the extent to which you are implementing and benefiting from your training.

The class and ongoing recertification process was designed to not only provide a solid foundation of training techniques, but also aid in maintaining a high-quality approach. The challenge, as with any training, is to actively implement the tools acquired when faced with the realities of your job. The class has a very specific purpose – to increase the reliability of your equipment but also make your job easier. The practicality of the class and the tools provided for use on a daily basis should deliver results almost immediately. Of course, to see results, you have to use the tools. Consider the key components of the training below when performing a self-audit.

Your goal would be to have as many checks in the completed column as possible. If you have implemented most of the tools, you should find that you are more effective, have an easier time training and ultimately feel more positive overall about the service you are providing. This translates into equipment that is more reliable. Some specific signs you wi’ll see are less service calls (especially repeat service calls), reduced customer complaints, less damage to the equipment, fewer accidents and greater sales.

If you took the self audit and had checks mostly under the “haven’t started,” you are probably seeing little change in the areas mentioned above. Take this opportunity to look at the list and pick one component that would make your job easier. Set a goal to work on that this quarter or month, or whatever you consider a realistic amount of time. Remember goals/objectives should be specific, realistic and measurable.
