Talking ‘Safety’ in Training: A Win-Win Situation

From a safety standpoint, the benefits of good training are obvious. Every company should instruct its employees on the general safety rules of the plant as well as on the safe performance of a specific job. Every equipment vendor likewise should instruct their end users on the safety aspects of their equipment. A Light Refreshment? Training in the Short-Term for the Long-Run

At a recent family get-together, the talk turned to education and teaching methods. I have a very large extended family; many of them are teachers, ranging from early childhood through high school to college levels. Some of them have been teaching the same subject to the same age group for more than 20 years. As teachers, they see their students several times a week for a full semester or even a year.
On the other hand, I deliver many different types of short-term training to widely diverse groups. I was asked how I could deal with so many variations of training and learners; I was also asked how I could be sure that my trainees retained what they learned over a long period of time.

Spotlight on Fowler Products Company

One hundred percent of Fowler Products Company’s service technicians are PMMI Certified Trainers. The Athens, GA-based division of ProMach, specializing in capping and cap-handling equipment, saw an opportunity for its technicians to benefit from the ‘quality training’ the PMMI Certified Trainer Program has provided since 2002. Doug Newcomer, aftermarket services manager at Fowler, points out that the packaging machinery industry lacked a formal training program prior to the one PMMI initiated to assist member companiess to better serve their customers.
