C.O.P.A.M.A. is a means to communicate with the makers and designers of packaging machinery and a route for members of the Confederation to express their views on a range of issues and concerns to other trade organizations, governments and policy makers.

ABOUT C.O.P.A.M.A.

Member countries take it in turn to run the Secretariat of C.O.P.A.M.A. for three years. During this time the National organization responsible holds the presidency of the Confederation.

So far, Italy, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, Japan, Spain and Australia have held office. Presently, The Netherlands is taking this responsibility.

Meetings are usually once a year and delegations meet at convenient exhibitions. A European group, Europama, meets twice each year to discuss developments inside the European Union.

Topics Discussed:

  • Common terminology for packaging machinery throughout the world.

  • Revision of the Customs Codes for international trade and statistics.

  • A database of exhibitions and events in developing countries and emerging markets so C.O.P.A.M.A. members can find the most suitable events where machinery suppliers can exhibit.

  • C.O.P.A.M.A. continues to monitor legislation on safety and other aspects of machinery construction and use in all the member countries, one example being the European Legislation for the Single European Market.

  • Annually, the Confederation produces a statistical analysis of trade for each of the member countries (import and export) and produces a global turnover figure based on this data.

  • The confederation is trying to collect historical information about the the development and growth of the packaging machinery industry in all parts of the world.
