Ten Trends, Technologies and Innovations from interpack 2017, published by PMMI – The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies, examines industry innovations observed at interpack 2017 and synthesizes PMMI field reporting, OEM demonstrations and editor insights to benchmark packaging technology direction. Focus areas include flexible automation and motion-control systems—including iTRAK and XTS movers and collaborative robots—that enable rapid SKU changeover, digitalization and IoT-enabled service platforms for remote monitoring and predictive maintenance, and sustainable materials and food-safety packaging innovations; augmented and virtual reality for training and maintenance also feature as enablers. Analysis indicates adopters generally show improved agility and lifecycle efficiency, and charts highlight cross-plant comparisons and vendor trends.
