What does your company specialize in?
Polypack is a manufacturer of end-of-line packaging equipment. We manufacture shrink wrappers, case loaders and wraparound equipment and have been in business for over 60 years.
How did you get your start in the packaging and processing industry?
I started in the packaging industry when I was young. I like to joke and say I was born in a shrink tunnel, but I've been in the packaging industry for 35 years. It's an amazing industry because it's so diverse. You're dealing with all types of industry, and packaging is for retail and distribution applications. It's quite fascinating to learn about so many industries, and our industry does that.
What are your favorite PMMI events or programs?
PMMI offers so many different programs. We have the Annual Meeting, the Executive Leadership Conference and Top to Top Meetings. These allow you to meet with your coworkers and other OEMs, as well as CPG companies – not only at the amazing trade shows in Chicago, Las Vegas, Philadelphia and Mexico but also during the aforementioned meetings. I think it has truly helped Polypack as a company— and I'm sure many, many other members— just by having a dialogue with our friends in the industry.
What have you enjoyed most about being on the PMMI Board of Directors?
Being on the Board is a real honor for me because you get to work directly with the staff and make decisions that affect all of our members. PMMI is a member-driven association. You are there with 17 other incredible board members, and you're working for the entire membership of PMMI. We get to grow our shows. We get to increase our attendance. We get to develop new programs that help our members. It's truly an honor, and I'm so proud to be on the Board and now Chairman.
What are you looking forward to most about PACK EXPO Connects?
This year is a bit different. Everybody's working differently. For the first time, we're going to have PACK EXPO Connects. We've had to develop it quickly, and PMMI has done a great job. We will be with our customers virtually, having virtual dialogues, which brings us into a new wave of communication. This is exciting to me and something that will stay with us for a long time. Of course, it's never going to replace the trade shows, but it's exciting. I think for Polypack, PACK EXPO Connects has already been a success.
