EPR influencing manufacturers' packaging decisions

The packaging industry’s awareness of extended producer responsibility (EPR) has risen significantly as more states move closer to adoption. Food manufacturers that are impacted by EPR laws will be considering new packaging materials that are more eco-friendly, but they can be more difficult to run through machinery.

“We always hear loud and clear that CPGs (consumer packaged goods companies) are looking for flexibility,” said Rebecca Marquez, director, custom research for PMMI. “They’re looking for modularity. They want something that can be adjusted easily on site that can handle different types of materials.”
