A myriad of technologies, including automated changeovers, servo-driven systems, and versatile machines that can handle both legacy and novel packaging formats, are currently accelerating operational efficiency in the packaging industry.

Today, packaging machinery makers are tasked with designing compact, easy-to-operate, and maintain equipment that can fit into existing plant footprints — and handle delicate materials without damage, according to the 2025 State of the Industry report from PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies.

“Evolving packaging requirements continue to shape how machinery is specified and designed, with flexibility, efficiency, and user-friendliness emerging as central themes,” states Jorge Izquierdo, vice president, market development, PMMI. “Customers are interested in equipment that can handle high SKU counts and innovative formats with minimal downtime.”
