Illinois Tech - Food Science and Nutrition Department

Illinois Tech’s Department of Food Science and Nutrition is a practical, industry-connected partner for organizations working in packaging, processing, product development, food safety, and regulatory compliance. Students learn the “why” (strong science foundations) and the “how” (modern, hands-on training in operations, analytics, compliance, and design thinking)—the same skill mix employers need to bring new products to market responsibly and efficiently.
What makes Illinois Tech especially relevant for PMMI members is our close connection to the Institute for Food Safety and Health (IFSH)—a unique consortium of Illinois Tech, the U.S. FDA, and industry focused on advancing food safety, food defense, and nutrition. Within IFSH, the Center for Food Chemistry and Packaging serves as a collaborative hub to address packaging-related challenges (including migration and packaging/food interactions) supported by advanced analytical tools and an FDA-registered GMP pilot plant for product development.
Whether you’re seeking talent, capstone-style collaboration, or applied research, Illinois Tech is ready to engage.
