The School of Graphic Communications Management (GCM) at Toronto Metropolitan University is Canada’s only degree-granting program serving the printing and packaging industries, with a strong emphasis on packaging systems, performance, and sustainability.
The four-year Bachelor of Technology program prepares graduates for leadership roles across the packaging value chain, including materials and processing, structural and graphic design, printing and labeling technologies, distribution and logistics, and sustainable packaging systems.Packaging education and research at GCM are anchored by the Centre for Packaging Innovation and Sustainability (CPIS), which advances applied, industry-focused research in sustainable packaging design, life-cycle assessment, distribution hazards, and cold-chain packaging.
Students may pursue an Option Concentration in Packaging and gain hands-on experience through state-of-the-art laboratories, including packaging testing and instrumentation labs, an ISTA-certified Distribution and Logistics Packaging Lab, polymer and materials labs, press labs, and digital imaging facilities.
Together, GCM and CPIS offer a unique, integrated environment for educating future packaging professionals and advancing innovative and sustainable packaging systems.
