Today, Canada announced the imposition of 15%, 25%, and 50% retaliatory tariffs on $27.6 B of imports from the US in response to the 50% Section 338 tariffs. Tariffs are scheduled to go into effect on 8 September.
The list of products impacted is published, and most food processing and packaging machinery of 8422 and 8438 are not included in scope. The only code of 8422 for industrial products impacted is parts of 8422.90.90 which are subject to retaliatory tariffs of 25%. There are also tariff lines for packaging (paper), steel, agricultural equipment, and electronics listed.
Finally, PMMI members should review the list of impacted products as there may be other machinery/equipment and input codes in headings outside of 8422 and 8438 which are in scope of the retaliatory tariff action.
