USTR Ambassador Greer announced that the United States did not agree to renew its trade deal with Canada and Mexico (USMCA) in its current form. The announcement comes with the official 1 July 2026 joint-review deadline and triggers an annual review process where all member countries must come to an agreement on renewing or the agreement will expire in 2036.
Please note that despite the announcement, USMCA remains in place and all preferential market access provisions under the agreement continue to be available for US, Canadian, and Mexican importers. Separately, under Chapter 34 of USMCA, a country can request to formally exit the agreement before the ten-year annual review process concludes which requires a six-month notice; no country has requested formal withdrawal.
US bilateral negotiations with Mexico and Canada are ongoing to address concerns with the agreement and work towards renewal.
