Password Protection Tips

In our first issue of PMMI CyberHealth, we explore passwords and authentication. It is estimated that over 80% of cyberattacks are caused by weak passwords that are easily guessed or “cracked”, making it one of the easiest and most dangerous vectors for attackers to gain access to your systems and wreak havoc.

To protect your organization, here are three things you can do:

  • Ensure that all your logins, from individual computers to corporate systems, are protected by a robust password policy requiring long, complex passwords that make use of letters, numbers, and symbols; ensure they are changed on a regular basis.
  • Employ multi-factor authentication on every login that you have, wherever possible.
  • Review which systems employees have access to, ensuring that they only have access to what they need to do their jobs, and that any unneeded access or logins get removed in a timely manner.
