Data Acquisition, Sharing and Utilization, published by PMMI – The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies in December 2024, examines how manufacturers capture, share and leverage operational data. Drawing on a Vision 2030 discovery session at PACK EXPO International, panel discussions, roundtable workshops and a pre-event survey, the analysis indicates three focus areas: data capture and connectivity, including OEE metrics and retrofitting legacy machines with sensors; scaling and standardization across lines and plants, such as gradual rollouts and interoperable MES/SCADA; and organizational readiness, encompassing stakeholder buy-in, data literacy and SPC-driven practices. Emerging patterns show these steps generally boost uptime and decision velocity, while charts highlight common barriers. The report reveals where engineering teams are prioritizing investments to strengthen operational resilience.
